Charges have been filed against a Philadelphia police officer who was off-duty when he was involved with a deadly shooting at a home, according to the Pennsylvania State Police. Troopers said that they were called to a home on the 1200 block of Old Gate Road in Allen Township after a domestic in cident was reported on Friday, July 24 around 1:48 p.m. When the troopers got there they a 27-year-old man man suffering from at least one gunshot wound, officials said. The 25-year-old suspect, identified by authorities as Kenroy Cummings, drove away from the scene in an orange-colored 2023 Kia Forte, troopers said. At one point, troopers said they saw the Kia near Race Street and Airport Road in Hanover Township so they turned on their emergency lights. Once the lights were on, Cummings fled in the Kia away from the troopers, officials explained. Troopers continued to chase the Kia until Cummings ultimately went back to the house, according to state police. This is when the troopers were able to take Cummings into custody, officials said. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he died at 2:45 p.m., officials said. Cummings was charged with criminal homicide and fleeing or attempting to elude officer charges. “The Philadelphia Police Department is aware that an off-duty PPD officer, Kenroy Cummings, was involved in a shooting incident on July 24th, 2026, in Northampton County PA, which is currently under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police. The Philadelphia Police Department’s Internal Affairs Bureau has been notified and has initiated the appropriate administrative investigation,” a spokesperson for the department wrote in a statement to NBC10. Sources told NBC10’s Brian Sheehan that Cummings is a rookie officer who is assigned to the 24th district patrolling the Kensington neighborhood. It’s unclear what the status of Cummings employment is with the department at this time. Neighbors in Allen Township – who wanted to remain anonymous – told NBC10 the man who was shot and killed was Officer Cummings’ uncle. The neighbors claimed the uncle got into an argument at the home with Officer Cummings’ siblings. They said Officer Cummings – who was off-duty at the time – was then called to the home due to the escalating situation. Police have not confirmed those details, however, and continue to investigate.
