One person was killed and seven others were injured in a shooting at an unsanctioned party in unincorporated Morgan Hill on Saturday night, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded at 10:16 p.m. to Hale Avenue near Miramonte Avenue following reports of intoxicate d people in the roadway and someone throwing bottles at passing vehicles, according to the agency. Upon arrival, deputies encountered a “chaotic scene” with more than 300 people fleeing the gathering after multiple shots were fired. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies provided lifesaving aid to the other victims until paramedics arrived. Seven people suffering from gunshot wounds were transported to local hospitals. Detectives believe a handgun was used in the shooting, which they described as an isolated incident. The party was reportedly promoted through social media, sheriff’s officials stated.
