A man holding an apparent firearm at an assisted living facility died following a police shooting in Fremont Friday, the police department said. Police said dispatch received multiple calls at around 3:38 p.m. reporting a man with a gun at an assisted living facility on Walnut Avenue. Authorit ies said the man was reported to be holding a firearm and carrying a duffel bag. They added he was last seen in a meeting room reportedly holding two people hostage. Multiple police officers responded and found the suspect holding an apparent firearm, according to the police department. Authorities said an officer-involved shooting occurred, and the suspect had to be taken to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The facility says the man arrived after a family dispute, though police say they are not yet able to confirm that. Police said investigators contacted the California Department of Justice’s Police Shooting Investigation Team to take over the investigation upon examining the suspect’s weapon. Authorities added the investigation is ongoing, and no suspects are believed to be outstanding.
