CHAPIN, S.C. (WOLO)– The Town of Chapin’s mayor says he’s not going anywhere following a vote of no-confidence by the Town Council. The council’s resolution cited several reasons for it’s lack of confidence in Mayor Bill Mitchell Jr., including an observed lack of cooperation with the c ouncil. As well as a lack of transparency and reporting of financial matters. The council did make it clear that the resolution was not to remove the mayor but to ask him to seriously consider resigning if he cannot restore his relationship with the council and the public. Mitchell was elected as mayor of Chapin in November of 2025 which was followed by a SLED investigation into an assault allegation. SLED ultimately declined to prosecute and closed the investigation.
