The projects — the Carrollton Double Crossover Project and the Harmony Circle Track Replacement Project — will be constructed simultaneously, prompting temporary service changes while streetcar operations continue along portions of the line. To accommodate construction, the RTA will operate two temporary bus bridges while maintaining streetcar service between Erato Street and Carrollton Avenue in the Riverbend area. At the start of construction, one bus bridge will connect Canal and Carondelet streets with Erato Street and St. Charles Avenue. Active streetcar service will operate between Erato Street and Carrollton Avenue along St. Charles Avenue. A second bus bridge will connect Carrollton Avenue and St. Charles Avenue with Carrollton Avenue and Claiborne Avenue. The Carrollton Double Crossover Project will relocate sections of rail and overhead electrical infrastructure near the streetcar line’s terminus at Carrollton and Claiborne avenues. According to the RTA, the work is intended to support accessibility improvements at the streetcar stop in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Construction is expected to take about six months. The Harmony Circle Track Replacement Project will replace deteriorated sections of track that have disrupted St. Charles Streetcar service since July 6. The agency said the repairs are intended to restore reliable service through that section of the route and are expected to continue through the end of August. The RTA said it is coordinating with its contractor to finalize construction schedules and will monitor service throughout both projects.
