Young athletes from across North Texas spent the week learning new sports, building confidence and developing athletic skills at a specialized camp hosted by Texas Woman’s University. The weeklong camp welcomed 25 participants ages 9 to 18 who are blind, visually impaired or deafblind. Camp ers took part in swimming, gymnastics, tandem biking, and goalball, a soccer-like team sport designed specifically for athletes with vision impairments. Each athlete was paired with a coach, many of whom are Texas Woman’s adapted physical education graduate students or alumni. Coaches worked one-on-one with campers to provide modifications and encouragement, allowing participants to safely and successfully engage in sports. The camp, held on the TWU campus in Denton, wrapped up July 18.
