Prosecutors rejected charges against a person of interest taken into custody after a fatal shooting this weekend near a Lincoln Park bar that has since been closed by the city.A spokesperson for Cook County State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke said “the evidence doesn’t support criminal cha rges” in the shooting late Sunday near The Dime, 2263 N. Lincoln Ave. The Dime was shuttered Tuesday by acting Chicago police Supt. Fred Waller.Malik McCorkle, 30, was shot multiple times and killed outside a nearby bar called King of Cups, 2238 N. Lincoln Ave. Witnesses said the shooting happened after fights broke out inside The Dime. An altercation eventually spilled onto the sidewalk and turned deadly, according to city officials and nearby business owners.Local Ald. Timmy Knudsen (43rd) said surveillance video from businesses showed people openly carrying weapons on the block before the shooting happened. He said neighboring establishments turned over footage to detectives.“This incident underscores the aggressive work we need to continue to do as a city and state to get guns off of the streets and to prosecute offenders,” Knudsen said in a statement this week.His office didn’t respond to an inquiry about charges being rejected in Sunday’s shooting.
