Coldplay introduced its new song We Dance during the closing moments of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final halftime show on July 19. The live premiere brought the British band together with the PS22 Chorus, the Muppets and singer Emmanuel Kelly at New York New Jersey Stadium. The performance concluded an 11-minute production curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. More than 50 fifth-grade students from Staten Island’s PS22 Chorus joined the musicians on the field, adding a large group vocal arrangement to the song. We Dance was written specifically for the World Cup event and carried a message centered on unity, love and shared celebration. Martin performed alongside familiar Muppet characters, including Elmo and Cookie Monster, while additional performers from the halftime show returned for the finale. The closing number followed appearances by Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber, Shakira, Burna Boy and conductor Gustavo Dudamel. Their performances included established hits, orchestral music and the tournament song Dai Dai.
