On Saturday, hundreds of soccer fans gathered in San Pedro Square to watch England beat France 6-4 in a match for third place. Now, fans are preparing for the World Cup final match between Spain and Argentina on Sunday. For weeks, San Pedro Square has been the hot spot for watching world cup socc er, with some people attending nearly all the viewing parties. “We came here plenty of times. It’s always very lively and active. It’s a beautiful thing. I really hope it continues because it’s been so nice,” Ayden Ayala said. An even larger crowd is expected to pour into San Pedro Square on Sunday at noon for the World Cup final: Spain vs. Argentina. After Saturday’s game, many people stayed to hand out near San Pedro Square. They had dinner, bought merch and enjoyed the soccer vibes. NBC Bay Area saw some fans buying Messi shirts as they prepared to return to watch Sunday’s game. Some said they’ve enjoyed the World Cup events so much they hope the city will continue holding other big events that bring the community together.
