A Union City woman was arrested after allegedly selling alcohol without permits at Lake Merritt following a monthlong investigation by the Oakland Police Department and the city’s Economic Workforce Development Department.
Police said officers first contacted the woman on June 19 after investi
gating reports of an unlicensed mobile alcohol vendor at 599 El Embarcadero.
Authorities said they seized alcohol, warned her that she lacked the required state and local permits, and advised her that continuing to operate would be unlawful.
Investigators later found a social media post that they said showed the woman continued selling alcohol, OPD said.
During a follow-up operation on Friday, police said an underage decoy purchased alcohol from the woman without being asked for identification. An undercover officer also bought alcohol in a separate transaction, according to police.
The woman was arrested on suspicion of possessing and serving alcohol in a public park and was booked into Santa Rita Jail on charges related to unlawful alcohol sales.
Police said she later admitted she knew her operation was illegal and that she did not have the required permits.
