San Francisco police recovered a body in the Bay near Treasure Island on Thursday. Hours later, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner identified the body as one of the people who went missing after a boat capsized on Tuesday.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examined identified the body as 58-y
ear-old Tondra Miller of Sacramento County, also known as Tondra Madruga.
At 1:02 p.m., police received an alert from a passing vessel of a body in the water west of Treasure Island, according to an SFPD news release. A police marine unit recovered the body and pronounced the person dead on scene.
Police did not initially say whether the recovered body may be one of the three missing people who were aboard the vessel that capsized near Alcatraz Island on Tuesday afternoon. Out of the total 20 passengers aboard the 49-foot cabin cruiser, one was pronounced dead and three remained missing as of earlier Thursday.
Miller has been the only victim recovered so far. Family members aboard the vessel identified the other two as Carol Boisa and Jackie Boisa, the daughter and wife of Clifford Boisa, the first person confirmed dead after the incident.
Miller’s family shared the following message on Facebook:
“As this event has received significant public attention, we thank you for respecting the privacy of our family and all those affected as we grieve. Our hearts remain with every family impacted, and we sincerely appreciate your kindness and understanding.”
The U.S. Coast Guard had searched for the remaining passengers using multiple search and rescue technologies, including thermal imaging and tide prediction for more than 24 hours before suspending the search on Wednesday at sundown.
