Tributes are pouring in across social media after a Creek County deputy died.Posts started popping up from area first responder social on July 16th, urging people to keep the Creek County Sheriff's Office in their prayers.WATCH: PAYING TRIBUTE: Creek County deputy dies in line of duty PAYING TRIBUTE: Creek County deputy dies in line of dutyCreek County Sheriff's Office announced Deputy Adam James Heitman, 38, died of a medical emergency less than an hour after chasing down a suspect.On July 15th, 2 News crews came across the procession: Creek County processionIn a release the sheriff's office said Deputy Heitman and members of the Creek County Sheriffs Office Task Force, Creek County Sheriffs deputies, the United States Marshals Service, and the Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police tracked down a wanted felon who had multiple felony warrants and recently assaulted a law enforcement officer while escaping custody.During the operation, the suspect jumped a fence, crossed a creek, and ran through an open field. Deputy Heitman and his K-9 partner, Thanos, successfully pursued and captured the man.Less than an hour later Deputy Heitman suffered a medical emergency at the sheriff's office.Fellow deputies and Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers immediately rendered aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. Responders from Creek County EMS and the Sapulpa Fire Department performed extensive lifesaving measures before taking him to the hospital.Doctors pronounced Heitman dead at 7:41 p.m.Heitman served two years with the Kiefer Police Department and four years in the United States Marine Corps.During his service, he served as a Team Leader with the 1st Battalion, 7th Marines and deployed to Iraq. He served as a Reconnaissance Marine, Combat Instructor, and Weapons Instructor before being honorably discharged in 2010.Deputy Heitman joined the Creek County Sheriffs Office in 2022. He served as a patrol deputy and later as a K-9 handler alongside his partner, Thanos.Within months of joining the agency, Heitman saved the life of an overdose victim and won the Sheriffs Life Saving Award in recognition of his actions.Deputy Heitman exemplified courage, service, and dedication to others. He served his community, his fellow deputies, and his country with honor.
