See below for an air quality alert that Mayor Justin Elicker sent out at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday. Hi, this is Mayor Justin Elicker with a message for New Haven residents about the poor air quality that is in our region today. Due to smoke from wildfires in Canada traveling our way, the air quali ty in New Haven today is considered “Unhealthy” (a “Red” alert). Sensitive groups include individuals with asthma, heart or lung disease, other respiratory ailments, as well as older adults, pregnant women, children, and teenagers. Sensitive groups should take the following steps immediately to reduce exposure, and all individuals should follow these guidelines.•    Shorten the amount of time you are active outdoors.•    Choose less strenuous outdoor activities (like walking instead of running) so you don’t breathe as hard.•    Reschedule your active physical activities to be indoors.•    Wear an N95 mask while you are outside as well.
