There may no longer be a boxing gym at San Antonio’s Colonnade III, but that doesn’t mean it’s no longer attracting heavyweights. Growing fast-casual chain Mr. Teriyaki has opened its newest location in a former UFC training facility at 9951 IH-10 in the Far Northwest Side shopping center. The chain is a relative newcomer to Alamo City. The first location debuted near North Star Mall in January 2023, quickly following up with two more outposts. All feed locals’ increasing hunger for pan-Asian fare that doesn’t break the budget.Although Mr. Teriyaki bills itself as a Japanese restaurant, it has plenty of pan-Asian flavors. The main attraction is teriyaki bowls served with rice and a small salad, but the spot also dishes out sushi rolls and Chinese-American appetizers like egg rolls and crab rangoon.Mr. Teriyaki also has an extensive menu of Taiwanese boba teas in flavors like coconut, passion fruit, strawberry, and lemon-kumquat. Other refreshers include avocado milk, a mango-sago shake, and a pineapple colada smoothie with jellies.Prices are generally affordable, with most dishes hovering around $10. Even a combination bento box with teriyaki shrimp, chicken, and beef; two egg rolls; two gyoza; a mini California roll; and rice sells for just short of $15.The counter-service spot continues the chain’s minimalist aesthetic with slat wooden walls and greenery installations. Although there are plenty of cushy chairs, we suspect most guests will pop in for a quick bite rather than lingering. For those stopping by, hours are 11 am-9 pm, Monday through Thursday, 11 am-9:30 pm, Friday; 11:30 am-9:30 pm, Saturday; and 11:30 am-8:30 pm, Sunday. ...read more read less
