Some masterpiece
Jul 15, 2026
Molly, Molly, Molly. You are smarter than that (letter to the editor July 8). You take nine paragraphs to describe a “community mastepiece” as if it was Story Book Land designed by Walt Disney himself. In reality the “masterpiece” is a fortress of nine large apartment buildings surrounding
an awkwardly designed grass and concrete open space.
With a playground (noisy) and an amphitheater stage that could barely hold a drum set and two guitars (if lucky), it is not welcoming to the community. And comparing this center area of the project to Library Field is ludicrous. Where are the 360 degree mountain views, the cool breezes, the snow-flocked trees and the fire flow of citizens within your “masterpiece”?
Was the real purpose of your lengthy piece to divert attention from your affordable housing pulpit? If so, it was not a very clever move. I have nothing against affordable housing in the right spot. But when the 8,500 citizens of Park City paid nearly $20 million for land that will house only about 250 residents (none of whom are required to work in Park City), that is not smart.
We already have larger and better located affordable housing being constructed in two locations within 3.5 miles of this project, which further illustrates the recklessness of approving this project.
In Mike Stevens’ letter on July 8 titled “Another Central Park,” he articulates the chance for the Bonaza 5-acre site to be Park City’s Central Park. This land could be a beautiful and picturesque center piece for the city. But instead, it is planned to have 88 affordable, but not inexpensive, apartments located on two of the noisest roads in town with an interior that will be small, noisy and enclosed.
So, Molly, why not support a real community masterpiece that all of our citizens will cherish? You and your fellow council members will be lauded for creating a generational and photogenic entry way to the city, be fiscally prudent with the citizens’ money, not dramatically increase current traffic in that area, and never be questioned for short-term judgment.
Come on, Molly, you can do it! In fact, you can join all of us who are signing the petition to reconsider the council’s intentions by going to Flanagan’s on Main Street or RE Park City at 1100 Iron Horse Drive or the website place-pc.com.
