Mr. Rogers, have kept and reread your editorial regarding the path our leadership has taken us on. It was so well written and reflects so many thoughts a lot of the public has but has little voice to address other than speaking at public input sessions. I can’t include voting because in 50 ye ars of voting, my vote has never really counted on the state and federal level. Regarding unbridled development, years ago the Summit County Planning Commission was expanded to two separate groups: The East Side and West Side planning commissions. The logic was that the two sides of the county were different with different goals and aspirations. The eastern side wanted to stay rural and agrarian. We have seen how that has not come to pass and the East Side feels the incredible pressure of large-scale urban sprawl in the mountains. I would suggest that it is time to go back to one planning commission with representatives from each segment of the county. Land and lifestyle are precious and once lost to real estate development, it is gone forever. Planning commissions are often viewed by developers as a bottleneck to achieving their goals. Bottlenecks protect precious liquids if they are accidentally knocked over. It allows for correction and saving what’s left of the precious contents. Maybe it is past the time to return to only one bottle neck instead of two. I hope I have explained this sufficiently. Thank you for your attention and your well received editorial.
