(CNN)– The Trump Administration says its Trade Fraud Task Force has uncovered more than $1 billion in recoveries and alleged losses.
The task force led by the Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security says the total includes criminal and civil penalties, settlements, restitution, a
nd pending cases.
The administration created the task force as part of a broader effort to enforce trade rules and collect tariffs.
Officials say the case that pushed the total past the billion-dollar mark involves a jewelry importer accused of falsely declaring the country of origin to avoid paying higher tariffs.
