The Fort Worth Stockyards have been the ultimate western base camp for FIFA World Cup fans. Global soccer culture meets classic Texas style – and visitors want to grab it by the horns. “They start grabbing hats and puttin’ em on, and we show ’em how to wear it. Do you wanna crease in i t? Hats have been the biggest hit so far,” said Donald Havard, the manager at the Cavender’s store in the Stockyards. It’s one of the retailer’s largest. Harvard says cowboy hat sales at Cavender’s in the Stockyards are up 20 percent. More than 400 hats sold in just three weeks. “I had to call our buyer, Dylan, ‘Can you get me some more hats? Whatever you can get your hands on, bring it to me,” he said. Wild Bill’s Western Store in Dallas had to stock up, too, after a shirt Norway superstar Erling Haaland bought sold out in 45 minutes. The owners say he left with two hats and boots, too,and his teammates did some retail therapy, too. “They were playing dress up. It was boots, hats, shirts, belts, everything,” said owner Cody Newport. “There’s something to it, right? There’s an air about it. Having a cowboy hat on. Having boots on. It’s that southern charm. “ Harvard gets it, too. “They wanna take Texas back with ’em. Go home. Say, hey, look, I got a cowboy hat.” This story uses functionality that may not work in our app. Click here to open the story in your web browser. ...read more read less
