Jul 13, 2026
Four people were shot after at least one person opened fire during a basketball game at the James Finnegan Playground in Southwest Philadelphia on Monday night, according to Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Pace.
Officers went to the scene at the 2700 block of South 68th Street at around 8:16 p.m
., where they found multiple victims, police said.
Three of the men shot are between the ages of 18 and 20, and are believed to have been playing basketball at the time of the shooting, Pace said. The fourth is a man around 40 years old who was mowing the lawn nearby, Pace said. All four victims are in stable condition.
The three younger men were shot in lower body, and the middle-aged man was hit by a bullet that likely ricocheted off of something else, Pace said.
Three people have been taken in to custody following this shooting, they are believed to be in their late teens, with one possibly under 18, Pace said.
The suspects were in or around a black or grey Dodge Charger where, he said, police found three guns inside.

At least 10 spent shell casings were found at the scene and another gun was found on the curb near the basketball court, Pace said.
However, Pace noted that the three individuals taken into custody were only being interrogated and it was still unclear if they were involved in the shooting.
Pace also later said that a second car was being held at the scene as investigators await a search warrant decision.
An investigation into this incident, he said, remained ongoing.
