New York City health officials announced Sunday night that the number of Legionnaires’ Disease cases on the Upper East Side is now 59, with 15 patients still hospitalized. Monday night at 6:00 PM, officials plan to hold a virtual town hall meeting on the current Legionnaires’ cluster. If y ou’d like to join in, click here to register. “This is not an issue with any building’s plumbing system,” the city’s Dept. of Health says on its website. Residents in ZIP codes 10028, 10128, and 1007 can continue to drink tap water, bathe, shower, cook, and use your air conditioner at home. The NYC Health Department is currently investigating a community cluster of Legionnaires’ disease in the Upper East Side neighborhoods of Carnegie Hill and Yorkville (ZIP codes 10028, 10128, and 10075). The city says Legionnaires’ disease symptoms include fever, chills, muscle aches, and cough. People may also have headaches, fatigue, loss of appetite, confusion, or diarrhea. The Health Dept. says “If you have these symptoms, seek medical attention. It is especially important for people at increased risk for Legionnaires’ disease to seek care right away.
