You’re not listening
Jul 11, 2026
I hate to beat this dead horse, but our city leadership simply isn’t listening.
Molly Miller’s letter “Community Masterpiece” this week makes one thing painfully clear: The council members and the residents of Park City have wildly differing visions for the future of this town.
A f
luffy-language-filled sales pitch will never convince us a grassy field surrounded by 3-story buildings and a 4-story one is a community masterpiece. With all due respect, just because there is a park half a mile away doesn’t mean we can’t have another one. In this small town, there is no such thing as too much open space.
As you read her letter and watch the rendering on their website, you’ll come to realize we already have a development very similar to the one proposed. It’s Newpark in Kimball Junction.
Newpark has breezeways, art, underground parking, a green area to gather, and tree-lined paths. It also has 4-story housing on top of local restaurants and shops. If you’ve been there, ask yourself, Is this a “vibrant, connected, inclusive space where local art thrives [and] friends and neighbors connect”?
If your answer is no, you’re not alone. We should be using templates like Ford Park in Vail as a vision for this space, not a crowded town center that you can find anywhere.
Place-PC.com is collecting signatures to petition for the Park City Council to withdraw its application for the mixed-use development at this site. If you’re interested, come find me or one of the many other community volunteers around town. There are also hard copies at Flanagan’s on Main and RE Park City on Iron Horse Drive.
After all, your taxpayer dollars bought that land. It belongs to you, not developers. You should be the one who decides what happens to it.
