Mountainlands Community Housing Trust on Friday presented the Robert W. “Bob” Wells Award to Scott Loomis, former longtime executive director and supporter of the nonprofit devoted to affordable housing.
Loomis joined Mountainlands as executive director in April 2001. Throughout his two deca
des of leadership, the organization credited him as “a dedicated advocate for affordable housing in the Park City area, working tirelessly to support initiatives that expanded housing opportunities for local residents. Recognizing the growing and critical need for affordable housing in the community, he helped guide MCHT through the development and preservation of hundreds of affordable homes. His vision, commitment, and leadership have left a lasting impact on both the organization and the families it serves.”
Jason Glidden, the current executive director, said: “For more than 20 years, Scott Loomis has been a driving force behind Mountainlands’ success and growth. Through his vision, dedication, and steady leadership, he helped transform Mountainlands into a strong and respected organization that has created lasting opportunities for individuals and families throughout our community. His commitment to affordable housing has not only provided homes, but has strengthened neighborhoods, supported local workers, and improved the quality of life for countless residents. Scott’s legacy will be felt for generations to come.”
Bob Richer, former chair of the Mountainlands board, said, “Scott Loomis was the foremost advocate and builder of affordable housing in Summit and Wasatch counties for 20 years. Scott touched the lives of thousands of people by both facilitating the construction of affordable housing and advocating and defending the concept that affordable housing strengthens a community. Thanks to Scott’s efforts, many families can live where they work, enriching our community’s diversity.”
Before his untimely death in 2015, Bob Wells served as vice president of real estate and resort development for Deer Valley Resort, a position he held from before the resort opened in 1981. Wells was an original board member of Mountainlands when it was established in 1993 and served as president and executive committee member for 22 years.
The initial award was presented to Bob Wells when Mountainlands celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2013. It is presented for “Exemplary Service in Support of Affordable Housing.” Other past recipients include Marc Estabrook in 2014, Bruce Crane in 2016, Jack Thomas in 2018, Guy Mecham in 2019, Tim Henney in 2022, and Bob Richer in 2024.
Mountainlands Community Housing Trust is based on the belief that a safe affordable home is often a family’s first step toward economic self-sufficiency. The organization addresses housing affordability and availability on three fronts: acquisition and new construction of affordable housing, direct assistance in securing housing and needed basic services, education and advocacy to promote housing policy.
