The driver of a stolen pickup truck was found shot dead hours after allegedly shooting a state trooper multiple times following an attempted traffic stop that led to a pursuit which ended at a Michigan City, Ind. gas station Friday morning. The driver was found with gunshot wounds sometime after 10: 30 a.m. near Joliet and Wozniak roads in the village of Westville, Ind., about five miles away from where the trooper was shot. Earlier, troopers found the pickup at a different location but also in Westville, state police said at a news conference. It wasn’t immediately clear how the suspect, a man, was shot.The incident unfolded about 5:30 a.m. when the Berrien County, Mich. sheriff's department began pursuing the pickup, a silver Ford F-150, which they believed to be stolen, state police said. The chase led into northwest Indiana where the driver escaped Berrien authorities and a state trooper spotted it on I-94, officials said. They tried to pull the pickup over but it sped away and troopers gave chase, state police said. The chase ended at a Speedway, 2884 US-421 in Michigan City, Ind. where the driver of the pickup shot a trooper multiple times, state police said. The trooper was taken to Franciscan Health and transferred to Memorial Hospital hospital in South Bend, where he was in surgery, officials said.
