The Dallas Wings have the fourth-best record in the league, setting them up for a potential playoff spot. At 14-8, this is the best start in team history after 22 games. In addition to the team’s success, the Wings have two starters in the WNBA All-Star Game: Paige Bueckers and Jessica Shepard. Paige received the most votes of any player (1,045,051). “We had the good fortune to draft Paige Bueckers number one overall last year and then Azzi Fudd number one overall this year. We had a big free agent signing with Jessica Shepard in the offseason,” Dallas Wings CEO Greg Bibb said. “She’s been fantastic. She’s one of our two all-star starters along with Paige. So it’s been a great summer thus far.” While their home court is at the University of Texas at Arlington, they will host three games at the American Airlines Center this season. The first will be Sunday, July 12 at 6 p.m. vs Chicago Sky. It’s the start of their slow but sure move to downtown Dallas from Arlington. “The Wings are close to finalizing an agreement to play all of their 2027 home games at American Airlines Center. The team has an agreement with the City of Dallas to begin play in a renovated Dallas Memorial Auditorium beginning in 2028,” Bibb said. Bibb said the new practice facility in West Dallas will be ready by 2027 training camp in April. The team is also finalizing arrangements to play all of their games at the AAC next season. Bibb said that for the team, this is about more than just what happens on the court. One way they continue to stay involved in their community is through their unique mentorship program. “We have a program where once a year we allow the players to identify someone from their life who has played an integral part in their rise to becoming a professional basketball player. It could be a parent, a sibling, a friend, a former coach. This year we had an individual coming from Italy; we had another one from Australia. We bring them on the road with us for a game. They attend practice, they attend meetings, we’ve a formal dinner, they come to the game. During that dinner, we asked the player to stand up and talk about their mentor and how they’ve impacted their life and of all the things we do it’s my personal favorite because it’s really a powerful night and it allows us all to take a second and express our gratitude to those who helped us all get to this very special place of professional sports,” Bibb said. ...read more read less
