A 27-year-old man was killed, and a 22-year-old was sent to the hospital with injuries after a drive-by shooting near North 27th Street and West Atkinson Avenue shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday.Friends say the man who was killed sp
ent his final moments buying a gift for his daughter."Today was his baby's birthday party he was actually in this area to buy some shoes for his kid," Reno Bandy, a friend of the victim, said. "She was turning four years old today."Surveillance video shows a white Lexus speeding past a parked car on North 27th Street. Police say the people inside the white car opened fire, hitting two of the men in the parked car.After the shots were fired, the video shows one man running out of the parked car, another man falling to the ground, and a third getting out and hopping on one leg. Paramedics are then seen arriving on scene."It just happened so fast," Bandy said. "I lost a friend that I grew up with, someone like a family member. Always looked out for the people he was around," Yae said.Bandy reflected on the dangers of street life in the wake of the shooting."You really have to be on defense.
