A preliminary 3.7 magnitude earthquake struck near Salinas Thursday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey. The quake hit at 7:49 a.m. and was located 11.5 miles south-southeast of Tres Pinos, 14.3 miles north-northeast of Soledad and 17.1 miles south-southeast of Hollister, th e USGS said.
