In pilot program, SEPTA's Fox Chase Regional Rail Station gets new bike lockers

With the launch of a new pilot program, SEPTA has installed new secure, weather-protected bike lockers for commuters at its Fox Chase Regional Rail Station.
The new lockers are intended to protect and store commuters’ bikes and scooters when they plan to commute on SEPTA’s Regional Rail syst
em.
“Providing secure and reliable parking for bicycles and other personal vehicles is key to making transit more accessible,” said SEPTA General Manager, Scott Sauer in a statement. “This pilot will help us better understand rider demand while supporting more sustainable and flexible ways to get to and from our stations.”
Officials said they determined the need for these kinds of lockers after a survey found 53% of riders said they would increase their frequency of travel on Regional Rail if they had secure bike and scooter storage.

The new lockers, Velomodo bike pods, were delivered through a partnership between SEPTA and Sportsworks, the same company that provides SEPTA’s bus-mounted bike racks.
SEPTA officials, in a statement, said they chose the Fox Chase Regional Rail Station as the launching point for the first bike lockers because it’s a terminus for a Regional Rail line and it’s direct connection to the Fox Chase Lorimer Trail.
However, with the launch of the pilot program, SEPTA officials did not immediately say when, or if, other Regional Rail stations may also receive similar bike pods.
