Silver King Mill makes Preservation Utah’s Most Endangered Historic Places list
Jul 08, 2026
Historic preservation nonprofit Preservation Utah has released its 2026 Most Endangered Historic Places list, and the Silver King Mill in Park City is one of three properties facing an imminent threat of loss.
The 2026 list overall adds seven properties and sites to the ongoing watchlist of at-
risk historic places across the state. The list now includes 35 properties across 14 counties, ranging from a century-old bank building in rural Emery County to a prominent school building in Provo.
Three of the newly listed properties have received the Endangered: Imminent designation, which is the list’s highest level of urgency. This status indicates that demolition, irreversible alteration or loss may occur without immediate intervention.
Those site are:
Dixon Middle School (750 N 200 E, Provo), a 1931 building designed by architect Joseph Nelson, located in Utah County.
Silver King Mill, a 1922 industrial structure within the nationally recognized Silver King Mining District in Summit County.
Green River Bank Building (210 W. Main Street, Green River), a circa 1904 commercial building in Emery County, one of the oldest surviving commercial structures in the region.
The four additional properties listed for 2026 are the Cisco Utah Townsite in Grand County, the Old Kaysville City Hall and Library in Davis County, the Wellsville Tabernacle in Cache County and the Rowland Hall Lower School/Roosevelt Junior High in Salt Lake County.
The 2026 list update also documents changes among previously listed properties. The Ogden Union Stockyard Exchange Building and Abravanel Hall have been designated as “saved,” joining earlier successes such as the 5th Ward Meetinghouse, Logan Main Street and the Silver King Coalition Mine Headframe Building.
Not all outcomes have been positive, the nonprofit said. The Salina Municipal Building and Library, a 1936 New Deal-era structure listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has been designated as lost. The Phillips Congregation Church in Salt Lake City, which was demolished in August 2025, is also considered lost.
Preservation Utah said its Most Endangered list is intended to serve as a dynamic, community-supported resource. Members of the public may filter properties by status, county, and year listed, review each site’s history and current threats and take direct action through the organization’s advocacy alert system.
