San Jose police seek suspects who stole statue from Vietnamese Heritage Garden
Jul 08, 2026
San Jose police are asking for the public’s help in identifying two people who stole a large statue from the Vietnamese Heritage Garden last month.
The roughly 9-foot statue of a South Vietnamese soldier was stolen from the garden, located in Kelley Park, on June 21 and later recovered along a
creek bed.
The South Vietnamese soldier statue stands next to an American soldier statue as part of a monument called “Thank You America,” a gesture to the American soldiers who fought with the South Vietnamese during the Vietnam War.
Citing a preliminary investigation, police said the statue was stolen sometime between 4 and 4:30 a.m. on June 21. At about 3:30 p.m. the same day, officers found the statue near the Coyote Creek Trail and Interstate 280.
During the course of the investigation, officers also found a stolen commercial truck they believe was used during the theft. The truck was reported stolen on June 18 from a business along the 1900 block of Monterey Road, police said.
The two suspects have not been identified and remain outstanding.
Anyone who recognizes the suspects, witnessed the theft or has information about it is encouraged to contact San Jose police Detective Cobb by email at [email protected] or by phone at 408-277-4521.
