The roof of a Monmouth County motel collapsed Wednesday morning, and the incident was caught on camera. According to Wall Township Police, around 7:27 a.m., first responders arrived at the Economy Inn on State Highway 35 after receiving reports of structural failure. Police said initial calls rep orted that a portion of the building’s exterior facade had fallen off, and other sections of the structure seemed unstable. At the scene, officers and firefighters observed an active partial roof collapse. Officials said the collapse was caused by damage from the recent severe storms that battered the area. Moreover, as emergency crews were on scene evaluating the damage, a secondary portion of the roof collapsed, officials said. Press play above to watch the video of the collapse According to police, the building was vacant at the time of the incident and no one was injured. “Responding officers taped, coned off, and placed barricades around the building and surrounding parking lot to keep the public at a safe distance. Township officials and emergency personnel have notified the property owner and will continue to monitor the site to ensure the unsafe structure is properly addressed,” police wrote in a Facebook post.
