Community masterpiece
Jul 08, 2026
Picture this: an opportunity to inject vibrance into our community, create a place for locals to gather, take a step in the direction of diversifying our economy, and build momentum toward workforce housing goals.
The Bonanza 5-Acre Site project, anchored with 8,000 square feet of space for loc
al art and coupled with micro-density infill housing, is poised to accomplish just that. In addition to arts, it provides space for childcare, wellness, local creators, entrepreneurs, and non-profits.
The design reimagines the streetscape: tree-lined paths blend into breezeways and meander along buildings that evoke Old Town. Shops feature wide glass doors that open an aperture to activity within and a green park for the entire community just beyond.
When those walls glide open, the community flows into shops and the nearly 2 acres of central space open to the public. For perspective, the park is as large as our beloved Library Field and is the backdrop for an arts pavilion, outdoor amphitheater, public art installations, experiential art playscapes, and community programming.
Those entering town are greeted with a huge open plaza (it extends past the old Maverik currently onsite) that’s designed as a beautiful welcome to Park City. It will be equipped with infrastructure to accommodate open-air winter markets and as many year-round outdoor events as our community can conjure.
The ability to enjoy this site in all four seasons provides a deep community benefit and vitality in months when traditional parks tend to lay fallow.
The city’s adopted Bonanza Park Small Area Plan envisions, as the project website states, “Bonanza Park as a neighborhood where Parkites gather to shop, share meals, create, and experience local arts and culture.” (More at 5acresite.com.)
The plan was developed through a process that engaged more than 1,500 community members through meetings, stakeholder roundtables, and surveys. The Bonanza 5-Acre Site project is the first within the neighborhood that integrates those plan goals.
The project itself is the culmination of nearly a decade of work, including time to incorporate public feedback that informed myriad architectural iterations. The final product is a design rooted in community with an objective of balancing what makes our town special and what will keep it functional.
We are so fortunate to live in a place that prioritizes conservation. Thanks to decades of forward-thinking leadership, Park City owns more open space, parks and trails than any municipality in Utah. Plus, City Park sits less than half a mile from this site! With so much protected open space, we have a historic chance to transform an eyesore of a former commercial parcel into the heart of our creative community and a magnet for locals.
This project is a critical step to build and protect the future of Park City. We can create a vibrant, connected, inclusive space where local art thrives, friends and neighbors connect, and our workforce finds a home. This bright vision can accomplish important goals for our community — and become something we are proud of for generations to come.
