Squish Burger Grills Up Smashed Patties in South Burlington
Jul 07, 2026
Longtime Vermont chef Adam Hineman has opened Squish Burger at 2026 Williston Road in South Burlington. As its name hints, Hineman’s menu features the popular thin, well-done beef patties typically called smash burgers. For those who prefer their burgers plumper, the chef also offers an “unsqui
shed” burger.
Squish Burger shares its building with a bottle and can redemption center and has a deck and indoor seating. It was most recently the home of Thingz From Yaad Kitchen, which moved to 152 Cherry Street in May and became Thingz From Yaad Authentic Jamaican Cuisine.
The 47-year-old chef said everyone calls him “Wingnut.” His varied culinary career includes stints at high-end Vermont inns and 15 years and counting as the owner of food truck Taco Truck All Stars. He also co-owned Tacocat Cantina, which operated in Randolph for about three years.
Hineman lives across from his new restaurant and said he’s had his eye on the spot for a long time. He settled on the smash burger concept because “You can never go wrong with burgers and fries,” he said. “It’s as all-American as apple pie.”
In addition to several versions of his signature burger and the “unsquished” option, Hineman serves fries, onion rings, a squished cheese sandwich and chicken tenders. He plans to expand to creemees, milkshakes, floats and fairground classics such as fried Oreos.
Squish Burger is generally open Friday through Monday, noon to 11 p.m., but Hineman sometimes closes to run his taco truck and recommended checking Google for updated hours.
