World Cup watch parties wind down in San Jose's San Pedro Square in Team USA loss to Belgium
Jul 06, 2026
San Jose’s San Pedro Square was once again the center of attention Monday as crowds gathered to watch the United States take on Belgium in a World Cup knockout match.
Kickoff for the Round of 16 clash in Seattle was set for 5 p.m. Belgium triumphed over the USA 4-1 and will now meet Spain in th
e quarterfinals as the USMNT played their worst game of the tournament.
Following a stunning reversal by FIFA, U.S. striker Folarin Balogun was allowed to play after his one-game red-card ban was suspended.
San Pedro Square was quieter than normal on Sunday after San Jose moved its official watch parties for the Mexico-England match to Discovery Meadow and SAP Center due to safety concerns and the need for more space.
Belgium will face Spain on Friday.
