By Melissa Patrick, Kentucky Health News · July 6, 2026 By Elizabeth Chapin University of Kentucky UK HealthCare has reached a new contract with Cigna Healthcare, restoring in-network access for patients with Cigna health insurance. The hospital and physician contract took effect April 27, and the provider reenrollment process was completed in June. Being in-network means Cigna members who receive care at UK HealthCare will generally pay lower out-of-pocket costs than they would at an out-of-network provider. Cigna members with questions about their coverage can call the number on the back of their insurance card. The new contract follows UK HealthCare’s departure from the Cigna network on May 1, 2025, after the two organizations were unable to agree on contract terms. About 4,500 patients who were affected by that change will now have their in-network access restored.
