Police were busy over the holiday weekend after, officials said, a man was killed in a West Philly shooting early Sunday while four other individuals have been hospitalized in separate shootings that happened across the city on the July 4th holiday. According to police, the deadly shooting happen ed at about 6:58 a.m. on Sunday, when officers responded to a report of a shooting along the unit block of South Salford Street in West Philadelphia. In this incident, police said, officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds and transported him to a nearby hospital where the victim was pronounced at about 7:28 a.m. On the Fourth of July, officers across the city responded to shootings that left four men hospitalized, police said. The first two shootings, police said, both happened at about 10:27 p.m. At that time in the 19th police district — which covers Southwest Philly, though, officials did not immediately provide an exact location — officials said a 33-year-old man was found lying in the roadway suffering from two gunshot wounds. This man, police said, also had an unloaded firearm underneath him when he was discovered by officers. A man who officers spotted running down that same roadway was stopped and has been taken in for questioning, police said. The victim in this incident, officials said, has been hospitalized in stable condition. At this same time, police said, a 51-year-old man walked into a Philadelphia hospital after he had been shot in his foot. An interview with this victim claimed that he was shot at a BBQ that was being held for the Fourth of July at a home along the 1400 block of Higbee Street in the Oxford Circle section of Northeast Philadelphia, police said. According to police, the victim told officers his brother was involved in an argument with another man at the BBQ and the victim attempted to de-escalate the situation. At that time, the suspected gunman — described as a man between 20 and 30 years old with a medium complexion and standing 5-foot-seven-inches to five-foot-eight-inches tall, with a slim build, a mustache and a goatee, who wore black pants and a white shirt at the time of the shooting — produced a firearm and struck the victim in the head with the gun. After the victim was struck, police said, the loaded magazine fell from the weapon and the victim ran off. However, the gunman allegedly chased the victim and threatened to kill him before shooting the man in the foot. Finally, at about 11:46 p.m. on the Fourth of July, officers responded to the 2400 block of North 26th Street in North Philly after, officials said, two men were shot. In this incident, officials said, police found a 63-year-old man who was shot six times in his arm and twice in his back along with a 33-year-old man who had been shot twice in his torso, once in his leg and once in his hand. Both men were taken to nearby hospitals, but officials did not immediately provide their conditions after they had been hospitalized. No arrests have been made in any of these incidents. But, officials said investigations are ongoing into each of these shootings. According to police statistics, as of Saturday, July 4, 2026, there were 84 reported homicides in Philadelphia so far this year. This is down by about 30% from the same time in 2025, police statistics show. Anyone who may have information on any of these shootings is asked to contact the Philadelphia Police Department’s anonymous tip line at 215-686-TIPS. ...read more read less
