A West Philly resident told NBC10 that she and her entire family have been displaced after a neighboring rowhome partially collapsed in West Philadelphia early Sunday. At the scene along the 6100 block of Delancey Street in West Philly early Sunday, debris could be seen littering the ground in t he rear of a rowhome along the block following the partial collapse of a vacant two-story rowhome. During the morning, Tamika Gates, who lives next door to the vacant property said her family heard the collapse happen at about 6 a.m. on Sunday but initially believed the sound was thunder or fireworks. “About 6 o’clock this morning we heard a big boom, but we just thought it was thunder or, you know, some firecrackers… I even thought by TV might have fell off the wall,” she said. “Everybody jumped up and was like ‘what was that?'” No one lived at the home that saw the partial collapse, Gates said and, she didn’t believe anyone was injured in this incident. Philadelphia’s Department of Licenses and Inspections has placed signs on the vacant property noting that the damaged property would be demolished and Gates said she contacted the department immediately after hearing the collapse. Gates said that she was told that inspectors with LI would be at the home shortly to inspect the property and damage to her home. For now, Gates said, she and her family were leaving their home for a hotel or an Airbnb as they await to find out if it’s safe to be in her property. NBC10 is working to learn more.
