A 16-year-old is in stable condition after getting shot in the leg and upper shoulder in North Philadelphia on Saturday night, Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Pace said. The shooting occurred at around 10:15 p.m. in the basement of a home at the 200 block of East Rockland Street in Philly’s F eltonville neighborhood, Pace said. The teen was with a group of at least three other teenagers between 15 and 17 in a basement when a 15-year-old handling a gun shot the 16-year-old, Pace said. According to Pace, the gunshot to the teen’s shoulder was just above his heart, and could have caused much more serious injuries. The 15-year-old, who may be a friend of the victim, fled the scene, but has been identified by witnesses and the victim, Pace said. Whether or not the shooting was an accident remains under investigation. There are additional resources for people or communities that have endured gun violence in Philadelphia. Further information can be found here. At least one spent shell casing was found at the scene, but a gun has not yet been recovered, Pace said. The home where the shooting took place is being held as a crime scene and it is unclear how many teens were there at the time of the shooting, Pace said. Parents have also been notified and have come to the scene, Pace said. Anyone with any information on the incident is urged to contact the Philadelphia Police Department at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or anonymously online here. This is a developing story; check back for more details. ...read more read less
