Muni adds service, street closures planned for SF Fourth of July
Jul 04, 2026
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is adding Muni service and implementing street closures to accommodate large crowds expected for the city’s Independence Day celebrations.
Transport officials urged people to use public transit, walk, bike, or take a taxi, warning that heavy tra
ffic and limited parking are expected Saturday afternoon through late evening, particularly near the waterfront.
The Golden Gate Bridge will close to all traffic from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. for fireworks operations, while Caltrans will begin closing U.S. 101 in both directions at 8 p.m., transport officials said.
Jefferson Street between Hyde Street and The Embarcadero will be closed from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Beginning about 8 p.m., access to streets in the Fisherman’s Wharf and Marina neighborhoods will be restricted to residents, guests, and deliveries, according to SFMTA.
The SFMTA will operate additional Muni fireworks shuttle service from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., connecting the Powell Street and Embarcadero BART stations to viewing areas in the Marina and at Pier 39.
Transit hubs will be located at Marina Middle School, Van Ness Avenue, Bay Street, and Pier 39.
