See Natural History Illustrations On Loan From The American Museum of Natural History Library
Jul 02, 2026
Science Central will present Natural Histories: 400 Years of Scientific Illustration, a temporary exhibition exploring the role of illustration in scientific discovery, from July 1 through October 2, 2026. The exhibit is interpreted with bilingual signage featuring Spanish and English translatio
ns.
The exhibition features large-format reproductions of scientific illustrations drawn from the rare book collection of the American Museum of Natural History Library. Long before the invention of photography, original artwork was one of the few ways to document and share images of organisms, people, and places across the scientific world.
Visitors will experience detailed illustrations created in the pursuit of scientific understanding across disciplines, including zoology and natural history. The exhibition highlights the intersection of art and science while showcasing the historical importance of visual storytelling in research and education.
The exhibition will be on display in Science Central’s Traveling Exhibitions Gallery and is included with general admission.
Natural Histories: 400 Years of Scientific Illustration is organized by the American Museum of Natural History, New York (amnh.org).
