Music on the Patio adds to the library’s livingroom vibe
Jul 02, 2026
The Park City Library welcomes the community to enjoy some front-porch jams during its Music on the Patio series.
These free concerts run from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. every Wednesday and Saturday through Aug. 29 and feature an array of local, regional and sometimes national singers, songwriters and music
ians, said Angela Dohanos, Park City Library assistant director.
“Music on the Patio is another great example of (how) the library is not just a place to borrow books,” she said. “It’s a community hub where people can connect with each other and also connect with musicians and artists. These performances transform the library into a vibrant space where community members can (gather) out on the lawn and patio and enjoy music and have fun in a beautiful setting with friends and family.”
Saturday’s concerts are sponsored by Lucky Ones Coffee, a nonprofit that employs and empowers neurodiverse individuals with disabilities, and Wednesday concerts are sponsored by the Friends of the Park City Library, a committee that raises money to supplement the library’s annual budget.
The Park City Library also works with another nonprofit, Mountain Town Music, which provides the sound system and books the talent, according to Dohanos.
“(Those partnerships) are so important for engagement,” she said. “There are so many studies out there about the importance music is to help people thrive.”
Friends of the Park City Library has sponsored Wednesday’s Music on the Patio series for more than five years, Cathy Lanigan, Friends of the Park City co-president, said
“For us it’s a nice thing to fund because it really fits in with our vision that has three (purposes) — ‘(being) informed, engaged and equipped with the resources to thrive,’” she said. “To me having an event like this is right in line with an engaged community.”
Rachel Sahlman, Friends of Park City Library’s other co-president, said Music on the Patio is one way the committee can show the public what it does with money raised through fundraisers, such as this weekend’s used book sale.
“A lot of times people don’t know what Friends of the Park City Library accomplishes,” she said “They don’t know where the dollars are going, so when people come to these concerts, they can see where their dollars are going.”
Music on the Patio not only brings the community together, it also adds an aura to the library, Dohanos said.
“It brings something special to the space and makes the day more enjoyable,” she said.
The library staff starts preparing the patio at 9 a.m. for the 10 a.m. concerts, Dohanos said.
“We have a little tent we put up to shade the musicians, who start to arrive anywhere between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.,” she said. “It always surprises and excites me to see we have so many talented community members. I’m just grateful we get to hear their beautiful music throughout the library.”
Music on the Patio is the audio equivalent to the quarterly, local visual artists exhibits that the Park City Library facilitates, Lanigan said.
“This is the same sort of celebration of the talent in the community,” she said.
These concerts are also free because of the Friends of the Park City Library support, Sahlman said.
“I’ve been reading a lot of articles about how expensive it has become for people to go to shows and concerts,” she said. “So, this is a way for a family of four to enjoy live music. They can also bring a picnic and spread out a blanket on Library Field.”
Music on the Patio isn’t the only program Friends of the Park City Library supports, Dohanos said.
“Thanks to (them), we are able to offer programs like Crafternoons for kids, art receptions, local speaker series and One Book, One Community,” she said. “We also receive additional funding to enhance our eBook and graphic novel collections, and, not least of all, Friends of the Park City Library helps fund one of our biggest priorities: food and care for our resident guinea pigs.”
