The Sixers on Wednesday agreed to a trade that will send Paul George and draft capital to the Celtics in exchange for five-time All-Star forward Jaylen
Brown, a source confirmed to NBC Sports Philadelphia. ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported the news.
Below are the full details on the picks heading to Boston, a source confirmed:
2028 first-round pick that could convert from a first to a swap that is more favorable to Boston
Sixers’ 2028 unprotected first-rounder
2028 second-round pick, most favorable of Warriors/Thunder/Bucks
2030 second-rounder, most favorable of Wizards/Trail Blazers/Suns
Brown was a member of the All-NBA Second Team last year, averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists. His final game as a Celtic wound up being Boston’s Game 7 loss to the Sixers in the first round of the playoffs.
At 29 years old, Brown will give the Sixers serious, in-his-prime star power alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
According to Spotrac, Brown is slated to make approximately $57.1 million next season, $61 million the following year, and and $65 million in 2028-29.
Brown’s name had been prevalent in trade rumors over the past several weeks, especially in connection to the Celtics’ reported pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo. While Antetokounmpo landed on the Heat, Boston continued discussing potential deals and accepted the Sixers’ offer.
George, 36, spent plenty of time guarding Brown in that playoff matchup. He ended up playing just 79 games over two seasons in Philadelphia after signing a four-year, $212 million contract in the summer of 2024.
For the most part, George gave the Sixers strong two-way play late last season and in the playoffs after serving a 25-game suspension for violating the NBA’s anti-drug policy. However, Gansey saw an opportunity to dramatically shake up the Sixers and clearly felt Brown could boost the team’s chances of contending for a championship.
