The Fairfield Police Department announced a K9 (canine) Officer died earlier this month; the Ennis Police Department is investigating the incident. A Fairfield police officer, Joseph Silas, was let go on June 18, 6 days after the German Shepherd died, after Fairfield’s Internal Affairs division investigated. That officer is facing a “cruelty to non-livestock animals” charge in Ennis, which is a third-degree felony. Silas turned himself in to the Ennis Police Department after a warrant was issued. He secured bond and has been released. Silas was a two-year member of the Fairfield police force. The Fairfield department says the incident happened at the Silas’ “personal residence,” and any questions about the charges “can be answered by the Ennis Police Department.” It’s unclear how the dog died.
