A 20-year-old bicyclist was critically injured in a crash Monday evening in Kensington, according to the Philadelphia Police Department. Police responded to the crash at approximately 5:46 p.m. on June 29 on the 100 block of East Allegheny Avenue. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 68- year-old man was driving a 2009 red Honda Accord westbound on Allegheny Ave. At the same time, a 20-year-old man was riding a bicycle on the southside of Allegheny Ave. Police said, as the bicyclist tried to cross to the to the northside of the road, he entered the path of the Accord. According to officials, the car hit the bicyclist, ejecting him from the bicycle and trapping him underneath the vehicle. It then ran over the 20-year-old, pinning him beneath the car. The bicyclist sustained a large laceration to the side and back of his neck, police said. He was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
