The New Orleans Redevelopment Authority is accepting applications for a new Food Business Microgrant Program that will provide up to $400,000 per project to improve commissary kitchens that support the city’s food entrepreneurs.
The program is designed to strengthen New Orleans’ food economy by funding renovations and infrastructure upgrades at eligible commissary kitchen facilities, according to NORA. Applications opened June 29 and will be accepted through Aug. 3.
Eligible projects include improvements to electrical, plumbing, mechanical, ventilation, fire safety and sanitation systems, as well as the installation of fixed commercial kitchen equipment. NORA said the investments are intended to create safe, functional and code-compliant kitchen spaces for shared use by food businesses.
The agency said improving commissary kitchens will expand opportunities for food entrepreneurs by enhancing the shared facilities many rely on to launch, operate and grow their businesses.
To help prospective applicants navigate the process, NORA will host a virtual informational session from 2-3 p.m. July 15. The session will cover program eligibility, funding opportunities, application requirements and the review process, and will include a live question-and-answer session with NORA staff.
Additional information, including eligibility requirements and application guidelines, is available through the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority‘s Food Business Microgrant Program.
