Norway fans took over Happiest Hour in Dallas Monday ahead of Tuesday’s game against Côte d’Ivoire at Dallas Stadium at noon. NBC 5 met the man behind the iconic celebration; his name is Ole Freystad. “Most people know me as Mr. Row Row,” Freystad said. Freystad says he came u p with the team’s unofficial chant a few weeks ago, and now it’s recognizable to a world of soccer fans. “I feel I’m like living in the dream,” Freystad said. Norway defeated Iraq and Senegal in the group stage before resting starters against France with their knockout round spot already secured. Now they’ve come to North Texas with a spot against Brazil on the table. That game is July 5 at New York/New Jersey Stadium – not everyone’s favorite stadium. “I just wanted to create a cool chant that could help our national team, and it seems like it’s right now creating unity between nations here in the World Cup and people having joy and fun together,” Freystad said. Dallas residents were happily surprised to have their Monday happy hour interrupted by World Cup chants. “I just stopped by here to grab a beer, like I didn’t know that all this was going on,” Ashton Preston said. “And then next thing you know, I’m in the middle of the row, doing the row.” NBC 5 spoke to Norway fans who said they loved their time in Texas, including the Fort Worth Stockyards. This is Norway’s first World Cup since 1998. Côte d’Ivoire is led by teenager Yan Diomande, who played some high school soccer in Florida and plays professionally in Germany. The team has never won a knockout-stage game at the World Cup. This is their first knockout-round appearance. Fans greeted them as they arrived in Downtown Dallas. This is Dallas Stadium’s first knockout game. The next is Friday afternoon with Australia and Egypt.
