A man behind the wheel of a car that slammed into a fire hyrdrant causing two passengers to be fatally ejected and injuring four others, has been taken into custody after the deadly wreck early Monday on the South Side.No charges have been announced for the 28-year-old driver, who was the only one u
ninjured in the 11:50 p .m. crash in the 4700 block of South State Street.The names of the woman, 22, and the man, 25, who were ejected from the eastbound car when it plowed into the hydrant, have not been released, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. They were dead at the scene. A 28-year-old man was driving the gray sedan east on 47th Street Sunday night when he lost control and rammed into a fire hydrant, police said.One of the four injured passengers included a 21-year-old woman who suffered trauma to the body and who was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, police said. The others included a 26-year-old man who was in fair condition at Stroger Hospital, a 23-year-old woman in good condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center, and a 17-year-old girl, who was was treated and released at the scene in good condition, police said.The driver was not injured and was placed in custody. Charges are pending.The Major Accident Investigation Unit is probing the wreck.
