Lincoln Police say an officer Friday afternoon was doing traffic enforcement near 27th and “J” Street and saw a vehicle speeding.  It eventually stopped at the Casey’s off of 25th and “O” Street. LPD says driver, now identified as Niall Alhilali, took off running.  He was taken into custody and police after a lengthy chase.  He was found to have three warrants for his arrest.  Investigators soon found out that Alhilali had discarded a firearm while fleeing from officers. Investigators were able to recover the firearm, found to be a 9mm handgun, in the area where Alhilali fled.  The owner of the vehicle that Alhilali was driving reported that Alhilali did not have permission to take the vehicle. Alhilali was taken to jail for his three warrants.  He was also lodged in jail for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.  He was cited and released for speeding, driving under a suspended license, refusing to comply with order of police, carry concealed with no disclosure, and tampering with physical evidence. ...read more read less
