Summit County Council rejects proposal to rename Tech Center Drive to Altus Way
Jun 26, 2026
Tech Center Drive may soon have a new name as Summit County and Six Ridge Partners brace for construction on the Altus Park City project, formerly known as Dakota Pacific.
Brandon Brady, a county engineer, presented a list of potential names for the roadway to the County Council last year, sayin
g it made sense for the county to change its designation because there will be no tech center once Altus Park City is built.
The four finalists were Big Moose Road, Nordic Drive, Gold Medal Way and Murdock Peak Road. Residents had a chance to vote on their favorite before Brady brought an ordinance to the County Council to make the change official.
They favored Nordic Drive, with Gold Medal Way taking second place.
But the ordinance never reached the County Council.
Brady said Six Ridge, the development firm previously known as Dakota Pacific Real Estate, asked the county to hold off on selecting a new name until the company finished its rebranding process.
Six Ridge then requested the County Council consider renaming the road to Altus Way, likely to build consistent branding throughout the development, Brady said. He added that it’s important for the County Council to decide on a name soon because Six Ridge is working to obtain its final plat map, which is when addresses will be assigned to future buildings.
Brady said it’s easier for the county and the developer if the name is officially changed before Six Ridge reaches that point.
However, the County Council was not open to Six Ridge’s suggestions. County Council Chair Canice Harte emphasized that residents had already selected Nordic Drive as their preferred name.
“With how controversial this development has been, I am not interested in naming it Altus Way at all,” echoed County Councilor Tonja Hanson. “I want to respect our constituents and not fly that flag in their face every time they’re driving on that road. There’s going to be enough noise around this development when it happens.”
The County Council unanimously supported Nordic Drive as the proposed new name for the road. Brady said he plans to bring an ordinance to councilors for an official vote on July 29, with a public hearing on the change scheduled for the same day.
