4 PM WEATHER 6-26-26W INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The unsettled weather that is place now will give way to the warmest stretch of the year next week.   FRIDAY NIGHT/EVENING NIGHT: Areas of rain storms will continue. Locally heavy rain may lead to flooding and a FLOOD WATCH remains in effect for locations south of Indianapolis where another 1-3” of rain may fall, if not more.  There is also a chance that a few stronger storms could develop with gusty winds and perhaps even an isolated tornado or two, especially across Southern Indiana.  Lows will be in the 60s.   SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy with a chance of a few more showers and storms. Not everyone will get one during the day, but the ones that develop could contain heavy rain and perhaps some gusty winds. Highs should be in the upper 70s to lower 80s.   SUNDAY: Some rain storms are possible during the first half of the day.  The odd of rain will decrease during the afternoon as temperatures warm into the mid 80s.  Heat indices may climb into the 90s during the afternoon and evening.   NEXT WEEK: The warmest period of summer (so far) is expected Monday through Friday.  Highs are going to warm into the low to mid 90s while overnight lows warm into the 70s.  The warmest days appear like they’ll be Wednesday and Thursday.  Heat indices should be into the 100s each day, and at some point values may surge past 105.  Heat alerts will likely be issued so plan accordingly if you will be spending a lot of time outdoors and out of air conditioning.   Storm chances may return to Indiana by Friday and continue during the 4th of July weekend.  This is the time of year when big storm complexes can roam the Midwest and produce damaging wind gusts, lightning, torrential rainfall, and power outages.  It’ll be something we’ll keep an eye on heading into the holiday weekend since some of our model data suggest that the hot/dry pattern could break down enough to support more storm development.     ...read more read less
