INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — This weekend, the Eiteljorg Museum will host its annual Indian Market Festival, one of downtown Indianapolis’ largest summer cultural celebrations, bringing together Native and Indigenous artists, performers, and food vendors for a vibrant two-
day event.
The festival runs Saturday and Sunday, June 27-28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Eiteljorg Museum.
Art and artists
More than 100 Native and Indigenous artists will showcase and sell their handmade works, including jewelry, pottery, sculptures, paintings, and traditional crafts. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artists, learn about their creative processes, and purchase unique, handcrafted pieces directly from the makers.
Food
Festivalgoers can enjoy a variety of authentic Native cuisine from Native-owned food vendors. A highlight includes two vendors offering traditional fry bread, a beloved staple in many Indigenous communities.
“The food is an important part of the cultural experience,” said Katie Warthan, communications and marketing director. “It’s a chance to taste authentic Native cuisine right here in Indianapolis.”
Entertainment
This year’s festival features exciting Native American music and dance performances. Skywoman Dance Theater will perform “Turtle Island: From the Creation Story of the Haudenosaunee,” a captivating production that includes a giant-sized turtle inflatable as part of the storytelling experience.
Indigenous Enterprise, an acclaimed dance troupe, will showcase a variety of high-energy Native dances throughout the weekend. Performers include Kenneth Shirley and Dom Pablo, both members of the Navajo Nation.
Ticket information
Advance discount tickets are available online at eiteljorg.org/indian-market-and-festival. Museum members receive free admission to the festival.
The event is family-friendly and open to all who wish to experience and celebrate Native American and Indigenous cultures.
